[Howto] Playlists with CDJ 400

Update for Mac 23/05/2011

By default, CDJs 400 decks are sorting mp3 files on Cds or Usb sticks in an alphabetic order. If you want to organise a kind of playlist, you must :

1) Note on a paper the way you will play your songs
or
2) Use a trick to rename your songs manually. It could be time consummer.

Here is a way to do it automagically with some piece of software. It could be done on Mac or PC.

1) On Pcs : use the Mediamonkey program :
First of all, do a selection of the songs you need. Then copy all files using Drag & Drop in a new folder (on your usb stick or on your desktop). Never work on your original files. If you do a mistake it couldn’t be reversible…
Then drag these files once again in Mediamonkey, then order your files as you like.
Use the numbering script tool : it helps you to put the file position into the mp3 tag.
Then use the Auto Organise Files in tools. You must move and rename your files this way :
.\<Track#:2> – <Artist> – <Title>

Once the job done, you could copy all files on your stick or a CD. They will be organized the way you want.

2) On Mac, you could do the same thing with Itunes, and a modified AppleScript called :
Artist & Track -> Filename

Just copy / paste this script into your Library/iTunes/Scripts
Copy / Paste the songs you’d like to playlist in a directory
Put all the songs in an Itunes playlist, sort all in the order you want
Launch the script with the icon in front of the help menu.

Once the job done, you could copy all files on your stick or a CD. They will be organized the way you want.
